An inside story Adam Long the producer now owns the rights of the show, so the show is likely to tour with younger (cheaper) actors. Whether or not it will be the same as the show now closing at the Comedy Theatre only time will tell.

As I understand it, a producer may own the rights to the show if it has run for a certain time or a certain number of shows has been performed.

Some of the actors in Dickens Unplugged (such as Adam Long, Bryan Torfeh) were also performers in the Reduced Shakespeare Company Shows. Possibly this is the cause of the 'musical' aspect of the show.

I lived in Sydney and I have seen the VCD of the show but still waiting for someone to bring the show to downunder. As an audience who have seen some five to six Du Liniang, I found it hard to say Shen is the best, though she is very pretty. One of the most amusing part I found is the nun complaining her born defect that deprived her the joy of sex. I cannot imagine how the show was allowed in Tang's time? It's would be interesting to imagine that it gave the audience, mostly educated and elite class of that time, the joy of forbidden sex, a sixteenth century version of reading pronography web. However I do agree that the author of the play is the true star of the show.

dear webcowgirl, i just thought i would let you know that i myself went to see 'saucy jack and the space vixens' and i thought that for an amateur dramatics group that are not paid a dime for their performance it was amazing and if one such as yourself with all your London experience within the west end can not see that a sense of humour goes a long way then you are truly in the wrong profession because after all is acting not for entertainment purposes, if this is not the case then i would very much like to know what the purpose is, yours sincerely, Lyndsey Lunt

Well, Lyndsey, I am not sure what profession you are referring to as my profession has nothing to do with the theater! I just expect to be entertained, but I also expect to see people on stage who can consistently hit the right note. I've seen lots of cheap theater that's been really excellent (see my review of "Annie Get Your Gun"), and this show just wasn't. I presume you're friends with someone in the cast?

Anyway, you'll note many of my complaints were with the script and the venue, and the cast can't be blamed for those problems - though I'm surprised that you didn't notice them.

Thank you for this review. I had been wanting to attend and introduce my German friends to some proper cockney culture. I felt the attendence of the Pearly King of Camberwell leant a certain sense of legitimacy to the evening, but it appears it was sadly lacking, the organisers missing the point of the cockeny ethos that is: 'I don't care who you are, I don't care where you've been, you just grab a corner and get stuck right in'.

I'm glad I didn't attend now.
